My personal future: Designing High Mileage Touring Fairings
OK. You can get over 400 mpg if you make yourself real small, get really streamlined, use 3.3 horsepower and ride very, very carefully.

What about something a little less extreme? Can I get 100 miles per gallon and be happy?

The goal:

100 mpg

Where we are:

28 mpg

Sitting up bores a big hole through the air and it creates a lot of drag. This rider is like being a parachute hanging onto the handlebars. He might think he is cool, but his showmanship is burning up his gas. If he was streamlined, he could go much faster with a much smaller engine.

Why doesn't he do that?

It wouldn't be cool.

How sad.

When I began designing for motorcycles, we got 43 mpg.

I was proud.

Today, our lust for power has brought motorcycle mileage down below many automobiles.

I am no longer proud.

Today I return to my roots of developing products that help us get better mileage
